I went back and forth about whether to write something, mostly because I didn't really know Maddy. He was a classmate at Cal Poly and we probably only spoke a few words to each other. I figured it was worth saying that I was deeply impacted by the news of his passing. Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly was not easy and many days I struggled to make it through my classes, labs, and projects. I operated on autopilot, as did many others I knew in our major, but the classroom atmosphere always changed when Maddy was there. He truly lit up the room, giving life to many who were just getting by. You didn't have to know him to feel comforted by his presence. He exuded positive energy and was always smiling. I hope he has found peace and comfort in the way he made me (and, I'm sure, many others) feel.

It warms my heart to know that you got some positivity from Maddy and that it brightened your day. I hope you can pass that light along and share a little of his goodness to those around you.
