Maddy is the first person I met when my family moved to Boulder. As we were unpacking our new home, directly across the street from the Lignell’s, I vividly remember the blonde boy in bright green crocs who walked right up to my parents, reached out his hand and beamed “HELLO!”
Throughout our time on Heidelberg our paths crossed often. Maddy was a frequent visitor to our trampoline (defying all the rules of gravity, I might add), my superlative co-class clown at Southern Hills (although he was certainly funnier than I was), a frequent Thanksgiving and Christmas guest, a friend with a booming laugh that made you laugh— exaggerated but genuine guffaws. With his lively mind and gentle spirit, he was easy company. Maddy soon became my brother’s best friend and a beloved part of our family.
You shine so bright Maddy. Oh how we all will miss you so. My heart breaks for you and your family. I am forever touched by the courageous, vibrant boy in bright green crocs.
Those crocs!
